Three-layered membranes of collagen/hydroxyapatite and chitosan for guided bone regeneration.

چکیده
The purpose of this study was to design a novel hybrid membrane with optimized properties for guided bone regeneration (GBR). Both the top and bottom layers of the sandwich-structured membrane were composed of collagen containing 20 wt% hydroxyapatite (HA), while the middle layer was made of chitosan. The above three layers were formulated into an integral membrane from their respective slurries through a layer-by-layer filtration process. The phase and composition of the membrane were confirmed by FT-IR and XRD analyses. The observation of its morphology by SEM showed that the membrane had a porous structure and structural integrity. The chitosan layer ensured the high tensile strength and elastic modulus of the membrane, while the presence of the collagen/HA composite layers endowed it with good flexibility and bioactivity. These results suggest that the integrated membrane prepared in this study would have the potential for use as a GBR material.

Electrospun chitosan membranes have been investigated for guided bone regeneration but are susceptible to swelling, dissolution, and loss of biomimetic nanofiber structure due to residual acid salts. A novel process was investigated for acidic salt removal from chitosan electrospun in 70% trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) by treating with triethylamine (TEA)/acetone and di-tert-butyl dicarbonate (tBOC...

Infections caused by pathogens colonization at wound sites in the process of bone healing are considered as one of the major reasons for the failure of guided bone regeneration (GBR). The objective of this study was to prepare a novel asymmetric collagen/chitosan GBR membrane containing minocycline-loaded chitosan nanoparticles. The morphologies of the membranes and nanoparticles were observed ...

متن کاملGuided bone regeneration with asymmetric collagen-chitosan membranes containing aspirin-loaded chitosan nanoparticles
Introduction Membranes allowing the sustained release of drugs that can achieve cell adhesion are very promising for guided bone regeneration. Previous studies have suggested that aspirin has the potential to promote bone regeneration. The purpose of this study was to prepare a local drug delivery system with aspirin-loaded chitosan nanoparticles (ACS) contained in an asymmetric collagen-chitos...
متن کاملGuided bone regeneration: A literature review
Guided bone regeneration (GBR) is a reconstructive procedure of alveolar ridge using membranes. This procedure is indicated when there is no sufficient bone for implantation, or in the case of optimal implant installation for esthetic or functional needs. GBR can be performed before implant placement, when there is not enough bone for initial stability of implants and less predictable outcomes ...
